Diamond in the Rough
Just minutes from the traffic and bustle of downtown Columbus, Ga., a natural gem erupts out of the seemingly undulating farmlands of suburban Columbus.
Witness Flat Rock Park. Located on Warm Springs Road, the park is a city maintained facility boasting numerous mountain bike trails (from kiddie to advanced), numerous rock outcroppings, and stone BBQ grills and picnic tables.
Weekdays are perfect for a brownbag lunch amidst the upper waterfall area. In addition, several benches and leaf-strewn sitting glens await an hour getaway. Take water and toilet paper; (the restrooms were woefully inadequate).
Saturday and Sunday find families, paint ball enthusiasts, bikers (pedals and Hogs), and a bunch of kids in the well maintained playgrounds. Overall, it's a great place to shut out the daily stress and take a moment to breathe and reflect on how good life really is.
